The Transformation of Spencer

This is a friend and client of mine named Spencer. Spencer is a 37 year old single man who reached out to me needing help in the fashion department. He told me that he needed help dressing up for formal events as he always felt out of place (he said that the above picture is how he dresses every day).

I find this to be a pretty common problem amongst most men these days. They're great people through and through, but don't know how to display their greatness properly. Men in particular often get stuck on a single style. We live by a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" code. Even I have a tendency to keep the same things that have been working for years. With that said however, I've often heard that we shouldn't judge a book by it's cover and yet most of the reason we choose books is because of what the cover looks like. It's not that the book is made any better or worse because of the cover, but people are more likely to pick up the book because of how attractive the cover is. That is also the reason that books get re-released with updated covers to appeal to a new audience.

Anyway, I met Spencer at the mall to do some much needed shopping. He said that first and foremost he needed a suit to go to black tie events. One thing I try to get my clients to do is be different and open their minds to new ideas, but at the same time I try to get them to stay authentic. For example, I tried to get Spencer in a different color of suit other than black with a white shirt, however it just turned out that his favorite colors are black and white. He would not have been completely confident in a canary yellow linen suit as he would have felt inauthentic. He did however expand his mind and tried on a peak lapel jacket. He had never heard of a peak lapel before, but he ended up really loving it.

He also got a great deal on a pair of versatile leather, zip up Chelsea boots. I explained to him that these are a versatile pair of shoes that you can wear with suits and jeans equally. This is a smart option for those strapped on cash and always want to look nice without looking like you're going to Casino Royale.

I also got Spencer to start wearing a jacket that fits his body better than the ones he had been wearing. All of his jacket were a little bit older and had a more boxy shape. He needed a jacket that tapered a little bit more. Finally, I did convince him to try on a different colored jacket (even though he did not want to get out of the black one) which you can see below. To me a blue jacket is a great way to go, especially if you only have enough money for one suit. On most men, unless exquisitely tailored, black suits make them look like their in the FBI (especially on you fairer skinned fellows). It's not a good look. If not that, then it often looks too formal for the average occasion. I also taught him a few neat tricks like ditching the tie (a look I love) and a few hair and grooming tricks. Also a few tailoring tips (which we didn't have time to do at the mall) so his suit fits perfect.

Spencer is now going to more events than ever (including fashion shows!). More importantly, he's going to these events confidently and feels like he belongs. Spencer now looks like the alpha he's meant to be. If you too want to be transformed into the alpha you are meant to be leave a comment or contact me on instagram @sirmatthewanthony or email me at sirmatthewanthony@gmail.com
